Winterline in Surkanda Devi – A Stunning Natural Wonder
This is a rare sunset that happens only in Switzerland.. or India, and that too in our own hills of Mussoorie. The sun drops just below the horizontal line of bright red/red light into the blue-black depths of the Doon Valley, a rare sight indeed. The horizon thus formed is one of the rare wonders of nature, and, so straight, that it appears as if a student had taken precise measurements to divide the western sky into two distinct colors, golden bright and deep blue-black. Have drawn a line with. Everything above the line is visible while just below it is complete darkness.
Half of the month of October has passed and the formation of winter line can be seen in the sky of Kaddukhaal of Surkhanda around Mussoorie. The formation of winterline indicates that winter is slowly making its way into the hilly areas of Surkhanda Dhanaulti, Mussoorie.
The winterline is a rare phenomenon where a false horizon forms during the evening. The temperature reversal caused by the mixing of hot and cold air creates a surprisingly smooth transition or buffer zone in the atmosphere.
Be it morning or evening, the sky of Mussoorie Surkhanda Dhanaulti and its surroundings creates picturesque views in every corner of the hill. The mountainous topography, natural landscape, altitude, meteorological phenomena contribute to the incredibly wonderful canvas of the beautiful Mussoorie sky.
There are only two destinations in the world–the Swiss Alps and Mussoorie/surkhanda devi in the northern state of Uttarakhand–that have the good fortune of welcoming the winterline. This stupendous sight is best witnessed from mid-October until March.
